Small earthquake
There was an earthquake in the Bay Area last night. The epicenter was in San Jose, and registered a magnitude of 5.6 on the Richter Scale. I was in my kitchen with my roommate, Ali, and another classmate, Danae, when it happened. Danae is a native of the Bay Area and, having lived through the famous '89 quake, knew what was going on. She just had us stand under a doorway for about a minute after the 6-8 seconds of rumbling that we felt.
I'm from the Boston area, so hurricanes and blizzards are no big deal to me. The thought of the ground moving underneath me during an earthquake is a little bit weird, but people who have lived with this particular geological phenomenon their whole lives take it in stride.
